How to be a Morning Person

How to be a Morning Person | Learn how to love the mornings

I love mornings. There, I said it.

I love being an early riser. I love being up and out of bed and still having the FULL day ahead of me. I love getting up on a workday and being able to get out of bed early enough to enjoy my morning little bit before having to jump into the “work day.”

So, how do I do it? How am I a morning person? Luckily, I’m about to spill the beans on how I became and maintain being a morning person.

Start the night before.

I do certain things at night to make my morning easier including picking out my outfit and prepping my lunch. I like to do small cleaning tasks at night too. Mornings feel easier when your space is clean and organized. I almost never let myself go to bed before cleaning my kitchen and wiping down the bathroom. Usually I’m dead tired and don’t want to, but I can trick myself into doing these tasks by reminding myself that “morning Kallie” will be so appreciative of it, and how much easier the next day will be if I do these things. I know it seems kind of silly, but it honestly works to convince myself into it.

Hydrate.

Before my must-have morning cup of coffee, I always drink a glass of water. Your body naturally dehydrates throughout the night and being dehydrated can make you feel groggy.

Skip the snooze button

Sure, I still occasionally hit snooze but I try relentlessly to resist ever hitting snooze. By hitting the snooze button you risk falling back asleep and then you’ll have to re-disturb your sleep cycle yet again when the snooze goes off. You’re a lot less likely to feel groggy if you force yourself up the first time you wake.

Give yourself a reward.

I find it a lot easier to convince myself to get out of bed if I’m getting out for something I want (as opposed to just jumping right into the work day.) As weird as it sounds, I actually am able to be a morning person by waking up even earlier than I need to. I let myself have 20-40 minutes in the morning for “me” time. Whether I work on blog posts, give myself a mani, or just relax with a big cup of coffee, it’s so much easier to get out of bed when I know I get to do something I enjoy first.

Speaking of my morning cup of coffee, currently I’ve been using the Cameron’s Coffee pods. Cameron’s BetterBrew Eco Coffee Pods solve the two biggest problems facing coffee from the Keurig: taste and waste. The pods are made of renewable plant-based materials with compostable lidding and rings that will return to the earth within 90 days! Plus, the pods also use a coffee filter instead of a plastic cup, so your coffee tastes more like it would from a traditional drip coffee maker. Cameron Pods cost only about $7 a box and are available on Amazon.com, Walmart, Kroger, Target, Sam’s Club and so on.

Reconsider sleeping in on Sunday mornings.

Unless I’m in desperate need of catching up on sleep, I try to get myself out of bed on weekend mornings within the same 60-90 minutes I usually get up on weekdays. This way I don’t mess up my sleeping schedule.

Streamline certain parts of your routine.

Getting into a set routine for things is a great way to make your mornings go smoother so you’re not rushing around. One big time suck for me in the morning can be the dreaded “where are my keys!” problem. To fix this, I’ve gotten into the habit of always placing my keys in the same exact place every night when I get home, that way I always know where they are when I get up in the morning.

Change your bedtime

This may seem obvious but if you’re crawling into bed at 1am every morning you’re never going to be a morning person. If needed adjust your bedtime by 10-15 minutes every couple of nights until you’re at a bedtime that works for you.

So, there you have it, my morning hacks for becoming a morning person. If you want even more inspiration, check out my latest YouTube video all about How to Be a Morning Person.  Thank you to Cameron’s Coffee for sponsoring today’s post.
